Portia Claudia Christy

Portia Claudia Christy, 67, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away January 23, 2020. She was born November 14, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Harvey and Luella Smith; she was one of seven children.

Portia was a lifetime Indianapolis resident and proud 1971 graduate of George Washington High School. After graduation, she worked many dutiful years for Union Carbide in the injection moldings division. She met the love of her life, Ricky Christy, as children at school #108. The pair were meant to be, they married shortly after high school and spent a beautiful life with one another. They remained deeply in love at the time of Ricky’s passing.  Portia loved collecting antique dolls and salt & pepper shakers. She was a very talented artist who especially loved babies and children. She was a caring, exceptionally giving, and kind woman, the kind of woman you never forget. Portia wouldn’t think twice about going without so someone else could have it, she was a true blessing to those around her. Her passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to meet her; she was truly one of a kind.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Luella; loving husband, Ricky Christy; siblings Virginia Brown and Richard Smith. Surviving to carry on her legacy are siblings, Frank (Nina) Ballard, Robert (Lola) Smith, William (Debbie) Smith, Cherie (Kerry) Lenihan; cousin, Debbie (Daryl) Edwards, whom she called her little sister; mother-in-law, Ruth Christy; a host of extended family including many nieces, nephews, and friends who deeply loved Portia; her loving rehab nurse, Mo, who meant the world to Portia and her family during their time of need; many friends at the rehab center; as well as multiple lifelong friends from George Washington’s reunion class, Cindy, Susie, Sergio, Jeff, Patty, and George.

All are welcome to visit Tuesday, January 28 from 4-8 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, January 29 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery immediately following services.
