Phyllis Ruth Goodman, 89 of Carmel, passed away at her home Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Phyllis was born November 1, 1935 in Washington, D.C. to the late Percy and Ethel Segal.
Phyllis was a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in Business Administration. During her time in school, she met the love of her life, Loren Goodman, who was serving in the army and stationed in the D.C. area. They were married in 1958 and had an exciting and loving relationship for over 60 years until Loren’s death.
Phyllis lived in the Detroit area for 37 years, during which time she prioritized raising a family over the professional bookkeeping jobs she held.
After retiring from the Birmingham Public Schools in Birmingham, MI, Phyllis and Loren moved to Indiana, where she lived for the past 30 years. Phyllis was a member of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.
Family graveside services are planned at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation Cemetery, North for Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Loren. She is survived by her children, Ilene (husband, Richard) Arends and Jon (wife, Tammy) Goodman; grandchildren, Wesley (wife, Dr. Megan Brown) Arends and Shayna Goodman, and Benjamin Goodman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
