Phyllis Stowers, 75, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away January 18, 2014. She was born October 30, 1938 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Howard and Irene Nelson. Phyllis graduated from Arlington High School and worked as an actress on stage and screen in New York and LA, appearing in a play with Barbara Streisand and later appeared in the movies Soylent Green and Two Minute Warning. While living in New York City she purchased a studio from John Tom and opened Scorpiana, a boutique dress shop where Phyllis designed and sold her own line of clothing catering to customers like Janis Joplin. She had also been a hand model.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Kenneth Stowers of Indianapolis; sisters Beverly Bealmear of West Bloomfield, Michigan and Gloria Lester of Indianapolis; a brother Tom Nelson of California; step-sons, Tommy and Tony Doyle and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Phyllis life will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 22, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan-Memorial Park. Visitation will be from Noon until service time. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
