Phillip John Mcateer

On August 1, 2022, Phillip McAteer passed away peacefully in Carmel, Indiana at the age of 90.  Phil was born to Addie Richmond McAteer and James McAteer on November 13, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He joins his wife of 61 years, Carol Kennedy McAteer, in heaven after her passing on June 11, 2022.  His daughter Claire (Brinton) Farrand, son Jeff (Liyan) McAteer, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren survive.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim McAteer of Kerrville, Texas.

Phil was an avid Ohio State fan and a lifelong Buckeye, having graduated from OSU with a BS in Pharmacy (1955) and an MS in Chemical Engineering (1960). He worked 36 years at Eli Lilly in various technical, pharmaceutical production, engineering, and managerial roles for the manufacturing area, retiring in 1993.  Prior to Lilly he was in the Air Force, working as a Medical Supply Officer for two years in Laon, France in a tactical medical unit.  He attained the rank of Captain.

Phil met Carol in Columbus, Ohio and married in 1959.  They raised their family in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana.  They traveled extensively and touched all the continents except Antarctica.  Their favorite trips included Australia, South Africa, and a safari in Kenya/Tanzania.    They attended Carmel United Methodist Church and had a large group of friends at the Barrington of Carmel, in their old neighborhood New Britton Woods in Fishers, and through their marriage enrichment group from East 91^st Street Church.

Family will have a private remembrance ceremony for Phil.

In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations can be made to the ‘Phillip and Carol McAteer Education Fund’, which is an endowment that assists Morgan County Residents with both GED and Trade School expenses.
