Philip K. Taylor, of Noblesville, IN, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on May 18, 2014 just one month after his diagnosis with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born February 7, 1953 in Vincennes, IN to Leland and Mida Taylor, Phil had a passion for life that was driven by his ever-present thirst for knowledge and an unmatched devotion to his family, his friends, and even those he did not know but hoped to help.
Phil cherished fond memories of his time in Bloomington, IN where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Classical Studies from Indiana University in 1974. Phil then studied at Vincennes University to become a Registered Nurse, the profession through which he would meet the love of his life, Karen Kender. Karen and Phil were married in 1978 and became proud parents of Amber in 1982 and Marla in 1984. As an adoring husband and doting father, he brought endless joy, love, and laughter to his family. When Karen suddenly lost her life in 1996, Phil quickly filled the role of both parents, lovingly raising the girls to become strong, smart, and caring adults, just like their mom and dad.
While serving as a psychiatric nurse, he was beloved by his patients and colleagues for his patience, positive attitude, and devoted care. More recently, as a clinical consultant, Phil touched the lives of new friends and colleagues throughout the country where he shared his passion for teaching, solving problems, and learning from others.
As he did throughout every challenge in life, Phil maintained his strength, positive attitude, and devotion to his family throughout his last month with us. His warmth, intelligence, and humor will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue through the unforgettable memories he gave us all. He is survived by his brothers, Elliott Taylor and Bruce Taylor, his daughters Amber Kemper (husband Michael Kemper) and Marla Taylor (husband Alex Tachtiris), and his granddaughters Hallie and Zoey Kemper, both of whom brought him such joy.
A celebration of Phil's life will be held at Flanner and Buchanan - Hamilton Memorial Park (www.flannerbuchanan.com), 4180 Westfield Road, Noblesville, IN on May 22, 2014. The visitation will be held at 12pm, an honorary service will begin at 2pm, and a private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the Taylor family requests for remembrances to be made through donations in honor of Phil to one of his charities of choice: Futures for Children (www.futuresforchildren.org) or WFYI (www.wfyi.org).
