Petr Vorsilak, 73, of Carmel, Indiana passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026.
Born in Prague, Petr left Czechoslovakia in 1969 with a tourist visa to Germany a few weeks before the borders were closed under Russian control. While in Germany, he attained a student visa to the United States and moved to California when he was 17.
He graduated from UC Davis in 1974 earning a degree in chemical engineering. Petr was a dedicated chemical engineer, loving his job and spending his entire 45-year career with The Dow Chemical Company and its agricultural science successors. His career with Dow began in California, taking him on projects around the world, living in England and France, before coming back to the United States to Indianapolis.
A loving spouse, father, and grandpa, Petr enjoyed playing tennis, alpine skiing, creating stained glass art, supporting music and the arts, traveling and spending quality time with his family.
Petr is survived by his wife, Katerina Vorsilak, sons Philip (Katie) Vorsilak, Robert (Hannah) Vorsilak, daughter Anna (Joe) Geisinger and three granddaughters, Sarah, Claire, and Natalie Vorsilak. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are invited for a gathering in memory of Petr on Friday, January 30th from 4pm to 6pm at Hamilton Memorial Park in the Prairie Waters building at 4180 Westfield Rd, Westfield, IN 46074.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute.
