Peter Sofios

Peter Thomas Sofios, age 84, passed away on February 23, 2015, at Jennings Healthcare Center, North Vernon, IN from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was born in Indianapolis on June 28, 1930, to Thomas Peter and Anastasia (Koyia) Sofios. He was a longtime resident of Indianapolis and most recently, North Vernon. He was a manager at Eli Lilly and Co. for 38 years. Pete was active in many organizations: The Service Club of Indianapolis, American Legion Post 153 (former Commander), Mystic Tie Lodge #398 Free and Accepted Masons (32nd degree), Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shriners of Indianapolis, Past District Governor of the Order of AHEPA, Past District Governor of the Sons of Pericles. He enjoyed extensive travel in Europe and throughout the United States. He was a voracious reader, and loved spending time with his family. He served his country with pride, and was honorably discharged from the United States Army with the rank of Sergeant, a veteran of the Korean War conflict. He was a graduate of Shortridge High School (Indianapolis) and Butler University (B.S), with one year of graduate school at University of Michigan School of Law. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 27th from 5 to 8 pm at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 E Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220 with a Trisagion Service at 5:30 pm, a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm and an AHEPA Service at 7:45 pm. Calling hours will also be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 3500 West 106th Street Carmel, IN 46032 on Saturday, February 28th at 12 noon, followed by the 1 pm funeral service. There will be a graveside service after the funeral at Crown Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia Ann Speropoulos Sofios. Survivors include his sister, Mary Sofios Thanos of Playa Del Rey, CA; daughters Ann (Ronald) Boeckman of Columbus, OH and Susan (Steven) Harding of North Vernon, IN. Pete enjoyed spending time with, and was quite proud of his grandchildren: Molly (Kris) Lozeau (Milford, NH), Eric Wood (Bloomington, IN), Aubry Wood (Chicago, IL), William Boeckman (New York, NY), Katie and Michael Boeckman (Columbus, OH).
