Peter Prionas fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 97. He was born in Florina, Greece on February 20, 1928. He served in the Greek army as an officer and a tank operator.
He came to America in 1955 looking for opportunities for a better life following his Uncle John Lazaro. Peter began working with his uncle in his local grocery store. He was an entrepreneur to the core, always looking for avenues to be prosperous. The opportunity to build houses arose; building one house and then a second house where he lived the rest of his life. In 1960, he ventured into the laundromat business.
In late 1960, he returned to Greece where he met his wife Kiki at a holiday party. Inquiring who she was, he met her parents, and asked for her hand in marriage. They were married on February 5, 1961, and came to America in May 1961 to begin their new life together. They had two children, Tom and Cristina.
Shortly after their return, together they built their business on West Washington Street, later expanding into the drycleaning business establishing the Fabric Care Center. His children joined him in the business throughout the years to continue the work he began. Sixty-five years after Peter began this venture, Fabric Care Center is still a thriving business today.
Peter spent several of his retirement years at his farm in western Indiana where he enjoyed building, creating, and gardening. He was a master of many trades and he lived by the motto “If I can do it myself, why pay someone to do it.” He taught his family the value of hard work, spending within your means, and was always willing to help others succeed in their lives and businesses as he was grateful that others had helped him.
Peter believed knowledge was power. As a self-educated man, attending school until the eleventh grade, he was always thirsty for learning. In his spare time, Peter loved to read. In his later years, he lost his vision to macular degeneration. He lived a content life at home while continuing to learn by listening to educational material on YouTube. His creative mind was sharp up to his last days.
Peter was full of life, dreams, passion and he was a strong pillar for all his family. He always did what he knew was right and had a wonderful sense of humor, often laughing hard at his own jokes. His legacy will continue in his family as they carry on his traits and values of kindness, generosity, helping others, living a modest lifestyle, working hard, and being lifelong learners.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Kiki Prionas and his children Thomas Prionas and Cristina (Gus) Nicklow; three grandchildren - Alexandra, Vasili, and Peter; sister Mary Gertsakis; brother-in-law Anastasios (Rena) Girinakis; sister-in-law Alexandra Girinakis, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Despoina and Thomas Prionas; brother Lazaros (Despoina) Prionas; brother-in-law Petros Gertsakis; nephew George Gertsakis; sister Nafsica (Agisilaos) Filiou.
