Peter Jones

Peter Jones peacefully passed away in the early morning of February 7, after 93 years on this earth. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Peter held a deep and abiding love for the outdoors and the Pacific coast. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Terry—a deeper and more abiding love—and they married and started a family. He spent the next 23 years in service of his country. He earned a PhD from NYU and his dissertation, War and the Novelist, was later published and was well-received. One of his favorite assignments was teaching English to West Point cadets. After his retirement, he worked as a teacher and technical writer and spent time reading history, looking at maps, feeding birds, and honing his skills as a grandfather. Grandpa Jones could be relied upon for spontaneous lectures on history and literature as well as many full-throated political discussions.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Terry, after 68 years of marriage; his four children, Peter (Robin), Paul (Vicky), Cate (Brian), and David (Jennifer); his grandchildren Dylan (Heidi), Rachel, Margaret, Sam, and Noah; his step-grandchildren, Andrea and Samuel; his great-grandchild John. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty, his mother, Mary, and his father, Paul.

A service will be held Saturday, February 18, at 2:00 PM, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN 46032. Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service. In July, Peter will be interred, with full military honors, at West Point, following a funeral mass at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel.
