Peter C. Americanos
Peter departed peacefully on May 2, 2015. He was born on March 31, 1941, in Mytilene, Greece, and grew up in the village of Eresos. After serving in the Greek army and becoming a teacher, Peter immigrated to America in 1966, calling it "one of the best days of my life." With limited English, Peter persevered and graduated Butler University in 1969. He then earned his law degree from Indiana University in 1972. Peter served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Indiana for over 20 years. He moved to Illinois in 1997 to work for the Veterans Administration. In 2001, Peter became an Administrative Law Judge and moved back to Indiana to work for the Social Security Administration until his retirement in 2010.
Peter served as a chanter, Greek School teacher, Greek Festival Chairman, and Parish Council President at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He was also an AHEPA District Governor and Chapter President. He then helped establish Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church where he served as a chanter.
Peter's love of the church, nature and hunting, reading, travel, history, and philosophy persisted throughout his life. Peter was virtuous in all respects, a loyal friend, and steadfast in his love for his children, grandchildren, and family.
Peter is survived by his daughter Anna (Antoni) Kantzavelos, grandchildren Spiro, Pano, and Eleni, son Christopher (Amber) Americanos who are expecting a child, and Peter's siblings Vasili and Evridiki.
