Penelope Blanche Parrish (McIntosh) of Lafayette Indiana passed away on July 31, 2024 at the age of 82.
She is survived by her three sons, Kurt L. Parrish (Alicia Taylor), Douglas M. Parrish (Amy Parrish), Todd G. Parrish (Missy Parrish); her sister, Julie A. Bragdon; 7(+5) grandchildren; 4 (+4) great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; 1 nephew.
Penny was proceeded in death by her parents, Dallas J and Blanche R McIntosh, and brother-in-law, Donald N. Bragdon.
Born March 31, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN to parents Dallas J. and Blanche M. McIntosh. Penny - as she was known - attended Warren Central High School and was the oldest of their two daughters.
Penny was the proud mother to three sons Kurt, Doug, and Todd. For 63 years, Penny filled her life with the love of her sons. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, neighbor and co-worker. Even grandchildren extended by marriage, she counted as “hers”.
A former Estée Lauder and Lancôme makeup artist, Penny was a fixture for clients and friends at L.S. Ayres and later, Macy’s. Her talents were sought outside of the workplace; providing makeovers and make-up for weddings and small fashion shows.
Penny always smiled with her entire being radiating her beauty inside and out. Best known for her kindness and care of others, Penny knew no strangers. While her family was her pride and joy, her friends, neighbors, classmates and co-workers were as important to her as she was to them. All have expressed to the family that they, too, are better for having known her.
Her family was blessed by her every day, as she made everyone in her presence know her joy and laughter. She delighted herself in the company of her sons where she took joy in their torment; knowing it was the sincerest expression of their deep love for her.
An avid card player, she loved spending time gathering with friends over a game of Euchre, playing Chase-the-Ace with the family and teaching people her favorite games, Rummy and Don’t Peek Ethel. Family could also count on Penny doing Astrological charts, telling them of relationship compatibilities and blessings pre-ordained by the stars.
Penny was a great cook with recipes her children and grandchildren crave at every family gathering. She loved hosting gatherings, and always looked forward to family events so she could see everyone together. Her flower, tomato gardens and plants were a source of pride and provided her much pleasure as she would sit on the patio.
Her faith was strong and openly prayed for herself and others. Despite any of life’s setbacks, Penny’s faith never wavered. Her greatest joy would be having her family and friends gather to celebrate her life and remember the love she had for them all.
The family thanks you for your memories, thoughts and prayers that have been shared during this time. We sincerely appreciate the important role you all played in making Penny’s life special.
