Greenfield

Greenfield, Indiana - Peggy Jean Bennett, 97, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024. Peggy was born on November 17, 1926, in Frankfort, Indiana, to parents James Raymond Burton and Lucille Elizabeth Kaufman. She met the love of her life, Jack W. Bennett, after he left the military. They met at the soda fountain where she worked with her sisters and were married on November 21, 1948.

Peggy worked as a lunch lady for many years at Sunnyside Heights Elementary, where she loved to dote on the children and make sure the teachers received a little extra food for their time.

More than anything else though, Peggy was a faithful child of God, devoting most of her life to the church. She was a longtime singer at the Lawrence Baptist Church, spending time as a singing evangelist and even recording an album with The Singing Emmanuels. When she moved to the Shadeland Baptist Church, she loved to spend time with her Ladies Group.

Peggy’s joy was found at home though, cooking for her family and friends. Food was a language of love to her, from the school to the home, and especially for her children and grandchildren. She also known to craft from time to time, creating homemade greeting cards for all occasions.

In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, sister Patsy Graham, and great grandchild Oliver.

She is survived by her children, Resa McBride (Leonard), and Michael Kevin Bennett (Angie); siblings David L Burton (Jackie Sue), Jaqueline Lanning (Wallace); grandchildren Keli Jean Bennett, Randall Alan Bennett, Sean Michael McBride, Brienne McBride-Whitbeck, and Jordan Ray McBride; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 11 am – 12 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229) with funeral services following at 12 pm, with Pastor Aaron Hargis presiding with assistance from Randall Alan Bennett.
