57 years old, of Indianapolis, IN went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 11, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, after a valiant 8-year battle with cancer. Peggy was a lifelong educator, teaching special needs students in Florida, and at a variety of Lawrence Township schools during her 30+-year career. She was an active member of Spirit of Joy and new member of Carmel Lutheran Church, and a multiple-year participant in the Race for the Cure. Peggys special gift was helping others including supporting others with advice and support in their personal fights against breast cancer. Her personal credo and word of encouragement to all was FROG (Fully/Forever Relying on God).
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Walter Bender, Jr.; children, Walter Bender III, Wayne Bender, and Wesley Bender; mother, Annie Laurie (Eilar) Lindley; siblings, Laurie Serak (John), Penny Billheimer (John), Michael Lindley, and Lisa Harper (Kevin); many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-love; along with many special friends, students, and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald W. Lindley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Peggy Bender Memorial Scholarship fund, McKenzie Center for Innovation and Technology (MCIT), 7250 E 75th St, Indianapolis, IN 46256; the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF); or, the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
Family and Friends may gather for calling and visitation from 3:00pm-7:00pm Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the McKenzie Center, 7250 E 75th St, Indianapolis, IN 46256; visitation on Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Carmel Lutheran Church 4850 E Main St, Carmel, IN 46033, with Celebration of Life following at 2:00pm.
