Peggy Ann Manning, born January 4, 1935, to Charlie and Lillie Mae Turner in Phenix City, Alabama. Peggy was the fourth of five children, Charles, Howard, Marion, Peggy and Frances.
Peggy met her husband to be, Clayton Manning, at a bus station in Columbus, Georgia while he was stationed at Fort Benning. She liked his smile. He liked the way she walked. He would pick her up for dates on his bicycle and she would ride on his handlebars. Clayton asked her to marry him three times before she finally said yes. They got married in August of 1952 and had six beautiful children in their 54-year marriage, before he passed in 2006.
Peggy loved to garden and read her murder mystery books. She loved to travel with her family and loved being anywhere by the water. She loved country music, HGTV, and was an amazing cook. Meatloaf was her specialty, but nothing came close to the love that she had for her grandkids.
If you knew Peggy, you knew she was not to be crossed and would often give you a “look” if she felt it was needed. Peggy was fiercely independent and loved working at Linder Dairy Center where she was a District Manager before she retired after 30 years.
Peggy is survived by her children, Teresa, Steven, Kim (Tom Nguyen), and Amy (Johnathan Curless); grandchildren, Anne (Daniel Peters), Mark (Brittany) Teepe, Matt Malkemes, Calvin Nguyen, Collin Nguyen, Rachel Nguyen, Spencer Nguyen, Lily Curless, and Andrew Curless; and great grandchildren, Jaxson Peters, Phoenix Teepe, and Maddox Teepe.
Peggy passed away peacefully Sunday April 17, 2022. She was 87.
