Pearl E. Mears, 98 of Alva, Florida and Indianapolis, Indiana passed away January 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family in Ft. Myers, FL.
She was born August 28, 1920 to Helen and Earl Richardson. She attended Tech High School and graduated with the class of 1938. She was a member of the Tech Alumni Association. She attended Butler University where she danced on stage as a toe dancer, performing at the best-known theaters in Indianapolis, since Butler at that time, had no theater. She performed at the following theaters: Fountain Square, Lyric, Circle and Indiana. She also performed at Tech and Washington High Schools. While at Butler she joined Zeta Tau Alpha Society and is a 78-year member of that Society.
On January 19, 1941 she married Henry E. Mears. They had 6 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Pearl was a Past Matron of Irvington OES #364 now affiliated with Englewood #483, and Past President of the Social Order of the Beauceant Assembly #90 in Indianapolis.
Pearl and her husband were managers of the Pilgram Mini Warehouse located at I-70 and Shadeland Avenue for 6 years. She also worked for Central Hardware on Shadeland Avenue and East Washington Streets for 12 years.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Earlene Reynolds and grandson Greg Reynolds.
Survivors include daughters Myra Fowler of Ft Myers, FL; Helen Katz-Smith of Alva, FL; Julia Santiago of Springfield, VA; Janet (Mike) DiNunzio of Souderton, PA; and Carol (Hector) Vargas of Henderson, NV. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Pearl was a member of the Alva United Methodist Church, 21440 Pearl Street, Alva, FL 33920, where donations may be made in her honor. A Memorial Service will be held there at a date not yet determined.
Services in Indianapolis will be Friday, January 25th at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM with the funeral beginning at 12 noon. Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery beside her beloved Henry.
