Pearl E Maclennan

August 2, 1924 — May 9, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Pearl E. MacLennan, 96, Indianapolis, went home to be with her Lord May 9, 2021. She was the daughter of Peter and Ella (Johnson) Thingstad, Norwegian immigrants who homesteaded in South Prairie, ND. Born in 1924, Pearl was the youngest of her 8 brothers and sisters, Esther, Bernice, Charlotte, Prudence, Irwin, Perry, Iver and Gladys.
Pearl’s early years were spent working on the farm, “walking” to school and singing in Saron Lutheran, the church founded by her father. In her early 20’s she moved to Minot where she ultimately met her future husband, Alex MacLennan. Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada, Alex moved to Minot for a job with the Minot Daily News. This was the beginning of his career in the newspaper industry which ultimately relocated them to Indianapolis with the Beverage Paper Company. They were married for 44 years before Alex passed away in 1992.
Pearl was an amazing wife, mother, aunt, friend, neighbor, housewife and athlete. Whether it was learning to drive, swim, play golf, bowl, play bridge or teaching the neighborhood boys to dance before the high school prom, she was up for any challenge!!! An accomplished bridge player who spent many hours organizing Goodwill bridge and bridge nights at Five Seasons for her bridge family of friends. Golf and bowling were her other passions – she had a hole-in-one on her 70th birthday and won first place in 2004 with her St. Luke’s bowling team!!! Las Vegas was one of her favorite places to visit, see shows, play her favorite slot machines at the Fabulous Flamingo and win!!
An exceedingly kind person with a big heart, Pearl always put family first. She is survived by her children, Gregory A. MacLennan, of Indianapolis and Georgene F. MacLennan of Carmel.
We would like to thank relatives, friends, her neighbors of 60+ years, the Wellbrooke of Carmel Legacy caregivers, and Guardian Angel Hospice for caring and loving her every day of her life.
If desired, friends can make a memorial contribution to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Indiana https://www.namiindiana.org/
