Paul Rankin Kennett
Born Dec. 21, 1926, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2016 at Franklin United Methodist Community. Born in Monticello, Kentucky, he resided in Indianapolis most of his adult life. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Detroit Diesel Allison, after 43 years. From his childhood in the Depression, to well into his eighties, his vegetable gardens provided for family, friends and strangers alike.
He was a voracious reader with an impressive knowledge of history, geography and literature.
He is survived by his children: David Kennett (Florence), Rebecca Holm (Mark), Nathan Kennett, Stephen Kennett (Elana Floyd), and Mary Kennett (Janet Stackpole). His grandchildren were special to him and he is survived by his grandchildren: April Kennett, Stacy Keaton, Matthew Holm and Andrew Holm and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laura Toole. He is also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ray Kennett and Elmo Ramsey; and sisters: Mary White, Lucille Turner and Ruth Conn.
Calling will be held from 11a.m. until 1p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1p.m. Burial will follow services in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Bethel U.M.C. Food Pantry.
