A man committed to God and a dedicated husband and father who worked and cared for his wife and family, Paul E. Miller, 93, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on December 24, 2025.
Paul was born in North Canton, Ohio, to Atlee Miller and Emma (Troyer) Miller on September 1, 1932. As a young man his family moved to Florida there he dropped out of school to work with his father in a mowing business to help support his family. In 1952 he joined the Air Force and served as a firefighter in the Korean War. He loved the American flag and what it stands for and proudly displayed it.
While stationed in Indianapolis, Paul met the love of his life, Goldie Hopkins, at the GC Murphy soda fountain where she worked as a waitress. Persistence paid off for him because after many failed attempts Goldie finally accepted his invitation to go out because her friend and co-worker said he looked so innocent that she should accept. Their first date was to a movie at the Circle theater in Indianapolis. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married while Paul was still serving in the Air Force. After years of longing for children Debra, Paul Jr., and Christopher were added to the family. Sometime after Goldie was called home to Heaven in January 2000 Paul began to spend time traveling and attending social events. He met Shirley Shipp and the two were married in 2003. They continued to travel and enjoyed cruises and spending winters in Florida. Shirley went to be with her Lord in May 2024.
Paul faithfully worked at General Motors. Working for the company for over 30 years, he retired in 1998. Paul loved the Lord. He worshipped God for His unspeakable gift of Jesus Christ dying in his place for his sins. He was a part of Bethany Chapel church family for many years. Paul loved playing games especially euchre. Some people coddle children and allow them to win but Paul was committed to teaching his children what it meant to be gracious in losing. Every family gathering involved games and laughter. Paul will always be remembered for his love for the Lord and his family as well as his quick wit and punny ways. We’ll always imagine hearing them say “no body has more fun than people, except, maybe spider monkeys”. We couldn’t have asked for a better father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, and will miss him every day. Paul’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him and we look forward to seeing him again in heaven.
Paul was preceded in death by five siblings, wives: Goldie Miller and Shirley Miller, and granddaughter Whitney Miller and is survived by his sister Alice Ralph, His children Debra Good (Caleb), Paul Miller Jr. (Eileen), and Christopher Miller (Cheri), grand children Aaron Miller (Lyndsay), Brittany Clark, Joshua Good (Miranda), Jeremy Good (Heather), Caleb Miller (Mercy), Emily Miller, Joseph Miller (Rosalyn), Jonathan Miller, Emma Miller, William Miller, eleven great grand children and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation for Paul will take place from 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Home, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm concluding with burial at Washington Park East Cemetery.
