Paul Warren Makinson

September 21, 1958 — September 22, 2025

Whitestown, Indiana

Paul Warren Makinson, 67, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 22, 2025. He was born on September 21, 1958, in Florence, Alabama, where he grew up.

Paul was a remarkable student and a lifelong learner. A high school salutatorian, he was known by his professors as the model student. He began his studies at the University of North Alabama as a trumpet major, later earning an associate’s degree in Computer Technology from Ivy Tech, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Technology while raising four young children, and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Purdue University. He approached his studies with devotion and persistence, often rewriting his research assignments until they were perfect.

Paul met the love of his life, Cindy (Titus), when they were very young, and they quickly became inseparable. They married in 1978, and within six years, they had four children together. Paul and Cindy shared a deep and enduring love, the kind that shaped every aspect of their lives. They did everything together — from sipping morning coffee and tea on their porch, to solving Sudoku puzzles, reading, dining out, and enjoying close friendships. They especially cherished evenings spent on their back porch by the pond, simply being together.

Paul worked a variety of jobs early in life — from siding RVs at Skyline to testing trumpets for Vincent Bach. In 1985, he moved to Indianapolis and began a career in computer technology, eventually joining Indiana Bell. He stayed with the company through its transitions to Ameritech, SBC, and finally AT&T, where he held leadership roles including Operations Manager and Design Manager. He retired in 2022 after nearly four decades of service.

Outside of work, Paul’s life was defined by music, faith, and family. He sang and played trumpet in the Castleview Church choir for many years, later performing with the College Park Church Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis. He also created The Coloring Book Channel on YouTube, sharing hundreds of videos for those seeking creativity and relaxation. His faith was central to his life, and he found fellowship and encouragement in the Heart of a Man Bible study group.

Most of all, Paul lit up around his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who led the family in prayer at every gathering and before every meal. He was a playful grandfather who loved board games, coloring, Perler beads, basement games, dancing with his granddaughters, and visiting local playgrounds. He was also a gifted athlete who loved tennis, and he took joy in regularly attending his children’s athletic events. His children often sought his career advice, knowing he would offer wisdom, encouragement, and gentle guidance.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Cindy; his 4 children: Matt (Megan) Makinson, Andrew (Mary) Makinson, Shara (Greg) Johnson, and Justin (Krista) Makinson; his brother, Mark (Jackie) Makinson; and his 12 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Makinson and Midge Hibbs, and his brother, Lee James Makinson.

Paul will be remembered for his love of Cindy, his devotion to family, his deep faith, and his joyful spirit. His legacy lives on in the music he played, the lessons he taught, and the family he loved so well.
