Obituary

Paul Groves, lovingly known as “PG” to close family and friends, was born on December 27, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in his hometown of Indianapolis at the age of 90.

A proud Army veteran and dedicated Managing Supervisor for the Kroger Meat Packing and Distribution Plant, where he retired in 1997 after 30 years of service. Paul was a man of discipline, integrity, and quiet strength. He believed in hard work, responsibility, and providing well for his family — and he did so faithfully.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage; his father, Rev. William Chester Groves, Sr., the founding pastor of New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church; and two brothers. Though widowed in 2002, Paul carried Norma’s memory with enduring love.

He is survived by his seven daughters and three sons-in-law: Lydia Groves, Regina (the late Lloyd) Williams, Desiree Groves (James Rogers), Stephanie Groves, Cheryl Riggins, Tracy (Jeffrey) Cramp, and Kimberly (Omar) Salinas; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; brothers, Flnoi and Billy; and sister, Pamela.

Paul was a faithful member of New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, where his spiritual roots ran deep. As the son of its founding pastor, he carried forward a legacy of faith, leadership, and Christian devotion. His belief in God was not merely spoken — it was lived through his character, discipline, and love for others.

Though his mother was not present in his life, Paul was raised by a loving and supportive family. His humble beginnings did not define him. Instead, they fueled his determination to continually better himself and build a life grounded in faith, resilience, and strength.

Paul was wise, loving, firm, and deeply dependable. He was stoic yet warm, honest, and kind. A realist with dry humor and quick quips, he did not need to be the center of attention — he was a natural leader. He was fiercely independent, courageous, candid, and quietly inspiring. To many, he was a role model. To his family, he was a guiding force.

He shared especially close relationships with grandchildren Taniesha, Kristia, Kandyse, Kameron, Brandi, Christopher, and Brennen; and great-grandchildren Kaiden, Aryanna, Knia, and Kannon, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

He found peace in the simple gifts of life. He loved nature — watching the dawn from his front porch swing, feeding animals, tending to his yard, which he kept with pride and care. Yardwork was never a chore; it was his sanctuary. He enjoyed barbecuing, camping, fishing, sledding, long car rides, stargazing with his daughters, lifting weights, dancing, singing, and listening to music. He dressed well and carried himself with dignity.

Paul was a great provider, a patient grandfather, and a father who created memories, enjoyed festivals, fishing trips, walks, laughter — moments that will live on in the hearts of those he loved. He was blessed with lifelong friendships and was deeply respected within his community. His quiet leadership, integrity, and consistent character earned him admiration far beyond his family circle.

A generous and compassionate man, Paul regularly supported charitable organizations including March of Dimes, Boys Town, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He was a lifelong blood donor and a registered organ donor. In his final act of giving, he became a tissue donor through the Indiana Donor Network, continuing his legacy of service and generosity even beyond his lifetime.

Paul Groves leaves behind a legacy of strength, faith, discipline, humility, generosity, and unwavering love. His life reminds us that humble beginnings do not limit destiny, that quiet leadership can shape generations, and that a giving heart can leave an eternal imprint.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to March of Dimes, Boys Town, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Indiana Donor Network Foundation is also receiving contributions for Paul Groves. More information can be found at:https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=iopo&id=1
