Paul Eldred Cousert 86, passed away Monday, April 16th in Greenfield, IN. Our loving, kind, caring, talented, gentle, humble husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle will be deeply missed and always remembered. He married Maxine McKinney on October 3, 1953 in Morehead, Kentucky; Maxine's hometown. She survives. After his high school graduation from Mackey High School, Paul enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII as a visual signalman from 1943 – 1946.
After his honorable discharge in March, 1946, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL where he graduated with honors. His career began in 1949 with the Indianapolis Local IBEW 481 and over the next 40 years he lead many commercial or industrial construction projects including Community Hospital, Link Belt, Rock Island Refinery, Stokely Van Camp, Clifty Powerhouse, General Electric and RCA. As a highly skilled tradesman, Paul also built the family home on Mt. Dora Lane in 1957 where he and Maxine raised their three beautiful children; Kevin, Kim and Kyle.
After retirement, Paul continued to maintain close relationships with many of his fellow retirees. He always looked forward to the holidays when the retirees would have the privilege of meticulously hanging year-after-year the Christmas lights on Monument Circle downtown Indianapolis. When he and Maxine weren't busy gardening or spoiling the grandchildren, Paul would enjoy a round of golf on a beautiful summer day. He and Maxine loved the theatre and enjoyed weekend excursions around the State or travelling to neighboring vacation spots such as the rustic family retreat in Canada; owned by brother Otis and his wife, Girly; and trips to Branson, MO, Nashville, TN to enjoy the latest Country show. As empty-nesters they hold fond memories of trips to Hawaii and Jamaica.
As everyone knows his fondest memories were those spent with Maxine and the kids at the family's cottage on Lake Tippy in Northern Indiana; where just about every weekend for nearly 20 years the family car was packed up on Friday night and the family would enjoy a meaningful weekend filled with laughter, joy, boating, water skiing; and jaunts around the lake aboard the family boat. And; oh...let's not forget about the much anticipated trips to Pj's for some tasty pizza and milk shakes.
Survivors include his wife Maxine (McKinney), son Kevin (Ann) Cousert, daughter Kim (Terry) Noland, Kyle (Pam) Cousert and two grandchildren; Angie (Gavin) Myers and Christopher Cousert; brother Thomas (Imogene) Cousert, brother-in-law Malcolm E. McKinney, sister-in-law Bonnie (Earl (deceased). He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Earl Cousert and Otis (Girly) Cousert.
