Patricia “Pat” J. Steelman,

age 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 14, 2026, at her residence in Carmel, Indiana. Pat was the daughter of the late Alec Ilie Oltean and the late Mattie Emelie Rose. She was one of six children.

Pat married Floyd “Max” Steelman, Jr. in 1984. They spent 26 wonderful years together before Max’s passing on April 8, 2010. Max and Pat lead a life of beauty and adventure. Pat often took road trips, affectionately known as “wives’ trips”, with Max on his job as an over the road truck driver with Schneider Transport; even driving the well-known Route 66.

Pat was a hardworking mother of two daughters, Jo Anne and Carole. She worked 30 years for Cra-Wal Container where she managed the shipping and packaging department up until her retirement in 2004.

Pat cherished time spent with her family and friends. She was “old school” and liked to send notes, cards, and letters to family and friends in the mail. Over the years she enjoyed playing bingo, cards, going to the casino and people watching. She also liked being on her computer and watching Soap Operas and the Game Show Network in her spare time. Pat enjoyed word games like Scrabble and Words with Friends – games she was very good at. Always up for an adventure, on September 3, 2024, Pat, along with her daughter Jo and her granddaughter, took a helicopter ride around the city of Indianapolis through Wellbrooke of Carmel’s Live a Dream Program.

Pat will be remembered for her spunky personality, adventurous spirit, and her caring nature.

In addition to her husband Max and her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her son, James C. Blankenship, Jr. and her siblings, Donna Rose, Don Rose, Charles Oltean, and David Oltean.

Surviving to treasure Pat’s memory are her daughters, Jo Anne Heminger (Chris) and Carole Jane Green. Survivors also include her brother, Dennis Rose (Teresa); grandchildren, Dustin Heminger (Sheyla), Chasity Roesch (Dane), Calen Green, Blade Green, and Sean Green (Kayla); 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park Funeral Center, located at 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN. 46222. 

Her funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM. Pastor Tom Richason will officiate.

Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery where Pat will be laid to rest with her husband Max Steelman Jr.
