Patricia “Patsy” H. Taggart, age 88 of Carmel, IN passed away on December 15, 2024 after complications from a recent stroke. Patsy was born on October 21, 1936 in Lorain Ohio. She was the only child of Harriet and Harold Hammer. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1954. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Her love of sports started with going to Cleveland Indian games with her father. Patsy graduated from DePauw University in 1958. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Patsy married George “Bing” Pratt during college. They lived in Chicago and Patsy taught 2nd grade in the Chicago Public Schools. They lived in Michigan and in Wichita Falls, Texas at Sheppard Air Force Base. They eventually moved to Indianapolis.
Following her divorce, Patsy married Wally Taggart. Together they blended a family of five children. Wally and Patsy moved to Brookshire subdivision in Carmel where they met lifelong friends. Patsy and Wally shared their love of family. Time spent with their children and grandchildren was a priority. Patsy’s passion was hosting family dinners in their home.
For 20 years, Wally and Patsy had club season tickets to the Colts games starting when the Colts arrived in Indy. Sundays were spent watching football and cheering on the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts. Patsy and Wally enjoyed traveling and visited many countries around the world. They especially enjoyed their “driving trip”. They made their annual trip to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg/ACD Festival. Upon Wally’s 1st retirement in 1999, they did a cross country road trip in a new Corvette on Route 66.
Patsy and Wally were members of Carmel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She worked at the church food pantry. She was a member of Carmel Women’s Club. She worked as Wally’s Administrative Assistant at Morgan Stanley for many years. They were members of The Lambs Club and enjoyed performing in their shows. They were members of the 500 Festival for over 20 years including the 6 years when Wally was a 500 Festival Director. Two years in a row, Patsy drove the drivers in the 500 Festival Parade who then won the 500 race. Following that all the drivers wanted to ride with her in the parade. They were members of the Asian Art Society. They were also members of the Columbia Club where many holidays were celebrated.
Patsy was loving and thoughtful. Her beautiful face and smile will be missed by all of us.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Wally Taggart, five children George (Kathy) Pratt, Pam (Bob) Curtis, Will Taggart, Catherine Coletta, Susie (Travis) Gross, Eleven grandchildren Paul (Natalie) Pratt, Bobby Curtis, Tim (Rachel) Pratt, Jacky Pascal, Ryan Coletta, Kimmie Curtis, Brett Pascal, Lynn Pratt, Sara Taggart, Jenni Coletta, Liam Taggart, and two great grandchildren John Pratt and Joanna Pratt.
Friends and Family will gather on Friday, December 20th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am for a visitation followed by the Memorial Service at 11:30 am at Carmel United Methodist Church, 621 S. Rangeline Rd, Carmel, IN. Light refreshment served following the service at the church.
