Patricia Maurey

March 15, 1921 — November 10, 2011

Patricia "Lydia" Keiser Maurey March 15, 1921 - November 10, 2011 The family and friends of Lydia Maurey mourn the death of this long-time citizen of Indianapolis. Lydia was born in Akron, OH, but spent most of her life in Indianapolis, attending IPS #84 and Shortridge High School. She attended Purdue University where she met and later married Eugene Maurey. Through the war years, she studied at Butler University while raising their young daughter, Elaine. Lydia received her BS from Butler in 1945. Her son Ed was born in 1946. Lydia taught school at Tudor Hall while continuing graduate studies at Butler. After receiving her masters in history and education, she began teaching at IPS #43. In 1960 she transferred to Arlington H.S where she taught history until her retirement in 1985. Lydia has been a member of the Meridian Street Methodist Church since 1957, where she sang in the choir and was active in several organizations. Lydia was an active member of several civic organizations, notably Hoosiers Against Gun Violence. Lydia was an accomplished pianist. She provided music lessons for her children with excellent teachers. Elaine became a professional pianist and Ed is an orchestral clarinetist. In 1960 Lydia became a member of Subud, an international, non-denominational spiritual organization. The Subud members of Indianapolis met at her home for many years until she moved to Boise. Through her involvement in Subud, her love of history, and while visiting her children, she made many trips abroad including trips to Europe, Indonesia, Ghana, Australia and Canada. Nearly four years ago Lydia decided to move to Boise, ID in order to be near her daughter. She died there November 10, 2011. Though Boise is a lovely place to live she very much missed her Indianapolis. Lydia is survived by her daughter, Halimah Elaine Brugger of Boise, Idaho; her son, Ed Maurey of Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada; 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Lydia's funeral will be on Wednesday, November 23 at 11:30 a.m. in Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 N. Meridian Street, with calling from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Lydia will be buried in Crown Hill Cemetery near her grandparents' graves. All of Lydia's many friends and acquaintances are most welcome. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanner and Buchanan- Broad Ripple . You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
