Patricia “Patty” J. Daugherty (Andrews), born April 18, 1930, in Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Foy and Kathleen Andrews, and her husband, Donald Daugherty. She is survived by her children, John (Susan), Diane Freeland, and Doug (Becca); her grandchildren, Alison (CJ), Nick (Kara), Meghan Freeland, and Hannah, Christian (Andrea Rall), Michael, and Austin Daugherty; great-grandchildren Eleanora Freeland and Noem Daugherty; and extended family, including nieces and nephews.
Patty graduated from Howe High School, where she was named a “Golden Girl”, and attended Butler University with Don. In the 1960s, she founded Storybook House, a beloved preschool on Hague Road known for its creativity and warmth. She later built a distinguished career at Union Federal Savings Bank, rising to vice president and earning respect for her leadership, mentorship, and grace.
Patty was a devoted follower of Christ and an active member of Emerson Avenue Baptist Church and later Faith Presbyterian Church, where she served in the choir and in leadership roles. Her life was marked by an abiding love for God, a zest for life, and a genuine love for people.
One of Patty’s favorite hobbies was her time with friends at Mud Creek Players, where she acted in and directed many plays, including Wait Until Dark, Heaven Can Wait, and Steel Magnolias. She was also an avid fan of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sports as well as IU basketball.
She will be remembered for her deep love for family, her joyful and optimistic spirit, and her steady witness to God. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and relational warmth lives on in all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 11 at Faith Presbyterian Church, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service following at 1:00 p.m.. Donations in honor of Patty can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or IndyHumane.
