Patricia L. Hurley, 89, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Indianapolis, IN. She was born on January 11, 1936, in Greenwood, IN. She graduated from Ladywood High School in 1954. After that she attended Marquette University, where she met and married Tom Hurley. They bought a home in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood and had five children.
Later in her adult life, she went back to school (in her 50s) and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in counseling/social work at IUPUI with high honors. From there, she started working at Fall Creek Counseling as an intensive outpatient therapist. This became one of her most rewarding experiences as she expressed happiness in providing guidance for people in need.
One of Pat’s passions was her house, yard, gardens, and flowers (inside and out). She was constantly pulling weeds and organizing her lawn ornaments. She played team tennis with the Wrecks, liked to ride horses, and was an award-winning marksman. She loved to read books and travel. Her one big adventure was riding in a hot air balloon when she was 80 in the Arizona desert.
Pat’s other passion was sports. She was a successful and loved girls basketball and softball coach. She continued that passion by closely following IU basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.
Pat’s family brought her great joy and fulfillment. She loved taking the family to the lake every summer for 40 years.
Pat was most proud of the people she met on her journey and will be remembered as maintaining her devotion and fellowship with all the people who helped her along the way. She provided so much inspiration to those she came in contact with. She was a strong, determined, and independent woman. She will be missed.
Pat is survived by her children, Mary Ann Hurley, Tom Hurley, Tim Hurley, Teresa Gross (Dave), Dan Hurley; grandchildren, Jason Skeens, Alex Skeens, David Skeens, Shannon Gross; and great grandchildren, Allie Skeens and Cal Skeens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Hurley; sister, Carolyn Summa; brother Paul Pritchard; and parents Claude and Margaret Pritchard.
