Patricia Anne Neufeld Hartman of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2024, surrounded by her family. Pat was born in Mineola, New York, January 5, 1950, the daughter of Lt. Col. Charles Neufeld and Marjorie White Neufeld.
An avid lover of traveling, gardening, sewing, swimming, learning, and reading, Pat grew up as an Army/Navy brat, living all over the United States, as well as Athens, Greece, and Okinawa, Japan. In 1966, her family moved to Gainesville, Florida, where she met her future husband, Frank, in high school. They were later married in Enterprise, Alabama on June 3, 1972.
Pat graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and remained a diehard Tar Heels fan all her life. She continued her formal education, earning master’s degrees in Audiovisual Media at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Library Sciences at the Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. She taught middle school math and was the librarian at a private boys’ high school.
Pat was an active reading volunteer with the Day Nursery, hands-on volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, masters’ swimmer, and volunteer cataloger and curator of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church library.
She is survived by her husband Frank, children Michael T. Hartman (Crystal) and Kate Hartman (Richard England); grandchildren Madeline and Jack England and Parker Hartman; sisters Sherry Ray and Hannah Neufeld; brothers-in-law Sonny Ray, Michael S. Hartman and William T. Hartman; niece Patricia J. Hartman and nephews Patrick Ray and Michael Ray.
Pat’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 10 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis and/or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis.
