Pamela Stoner Burt, 70, of Indianapolis, died peacefully at home on December 9, 2014, next to her loving husband of 48 years, Michael Burt.
Pam was born on June 11, 1944 in Indianapolis to the late Richard and Virginia Stoner. She graduated from Indiana University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, with a specialization in early childhood. While at Indiana University, Pam was actively involved in her sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, even serving as president her senior year. After graduating from college, Pam worked at Avon High School as a teacher in various subjects for 3 years before becoming director of Allisonville Christian Church preschool where she served 20 years. Pam retired after leaving Allisonville but quickly returned back to work taking a job teaching pre-kindergarten for the next 17 years at Geist Christian Church Weekday Ministries. After retiring for the second and final time, she continued to stay involved with the Weekday Ministries program both as a guest teacher and on the administrative side.
Pam was a person of strong faith. She was actively involved in her church, Geist Christian Church, serving as Elder for many years as well as a Stephen Minister as part of the Stephen Ministry program. In addition to her religious work at Geist Christian Church, Pam was an active member of the Children's Museum Guild for several years.
Pam's indomitable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles.
Pam and Mike have four children: Eric Burt, Marla Burt (Jen DeRice), Ande Burt (Katie Burt), and Abbie Foreman (Rob Foreman). She also leaves grandchildren Isabella, Charlotte, Ella, Owen, Evelyn, Miles, Eleanor, and Theodore. Pam's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of her kind spirit, love of learning, and passion for travel will live on through them
Pam is also survived by brothers, Richard Stoner (Elsa Stoner) and Benjamin Stoner (Pat Daly); and sisters Janet Stoner (Robert Abrams), Becky Kirts (Randy Kirts), and Joanne Stoner (Jack Hanick) and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Oncologist Keith Logie and Surgeon John Goldenberg and the staff at the Cancer Center. Thank you all for providing such loving care. The family would also like to thank Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate care which made it possible for her to spend her last days in her own home.
A celebration of Pam's life will be on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 10:30 am at Geist Christian Church, 8550 Mud Creek Road, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Geist Christian Church. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate and share their memories of Pam.
