Owen Cox, Jr.
91, Indianapolis, passed away September 27, 2014 at his home. Owen was born in Lynnville, Tennessee on September 21, 1923 to parents, Owen, Sr. and Willie Cox. Owen was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. During his career, he worked in production control at General Motors (Allison Division) for 40 years, retiring in 1988. Owen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a hardworking, humble and dedicated man. He was also a very accomplished gardener, earning many awards over the years including the Most Beautiful Yard award from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, given to him by Mayor Hudnut.
Owen is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn K. (Samples) Cox; children: Norma (Edwin), Kathy (Jerry), Bobby (Shirley), Jerry, Don (Stephanie), Brenda and Ronnie (Joy); grandchildren: Arica (Robert), Andre, Sean, Brittany, Michelle, Ronnie Jr., Sydney, Karlie, Tamara, Evan, Cameron, Journey, Troycine, Brandon and Jasmine; great-grandchildren: DeAndre, Kennedy, Charles, Trinity and Amira; and his siblings: Dora Dean, Mary Crenshaw, Joe Louis Cox, Bessie Gandy (Frank), Matthew Cox and Douglas Cox (Shirley); as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church, 4007 North Sherman Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46226, where friends may call from 9am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
