Orville Lee Bennett, 85, affectionately known as “Red” passed away peacefully in his home from natural causes on Friday, June 18, 2021. An only child born April 21, 1936, to Ruby Bennett-Hill, Red was a Cool Daddy!
While attending John Hope Elementary School, Orville met Robert “Bobby” Taylor and by the third grade created a brotherly bond that stayed strong until his worldly departure.
In 1954 Orville graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and joined the United States Air Force. While enlisted he became a Licensed Practical Nurse and served at the Veteran Affairs Hospital. Orville obtained an honorable discharge in 1958 just in time to welcome his first child in 1959, Lisa Kluttz. On July 23, 1970, Orville welcomed his second child, Kevin Bennett and then married Marcia Diane Golder-Bennett in 1972 until their divorce in 1988. That marriage produced his third and final biological child, Ryan L. Bennett in 1981.
Orville’s interests varied from fishing to golf, pool, chess, swimming, but nothing interested him more than his true love, MUSIC. In 1975 Red became one of the founding members of The Indianapolis Jazz Society. Over his 85 years, Red worked many jobs, some of those included, Skycap Special Deputy Sheriff.
During Orville’s later years he married his childhood sweetheart, Beverly Donahue-Harvey-Bennett, in 1995 expanding his family even more gaining 4 stepchildren and a host of grandchildren.
