Orville Clyde Sallee

October 26, 1917 — May 11, 2012

Orville Clyde Sallee 94, died May 11, 2012. Clyde graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1934, attended Purdue, Central Normal College and Butler University. He taught at Alexandria High school in 1938-39. A decorated veteran of WWII, he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Germany, Austria and France. He received the Bronze Star. Clyde taught at Speedway High School from 1945-83. In addition, he served as basketball coach, assistant principle and athletic director. Clyde was inducted into the Speedway Town Hall of Fame in 1982. A devoted husband and father, Clyde is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ellie Sallee; children, Robert (Linda) Sallee and Sandy (Devin) DeWeese; three grandchildren, Kyle, and Ryan Sallee and Kate DeWeese; six great-grandchildren, Whitney, Austin, Sam, Joe, Kenzie Kay, and Ellie Ann Sallee. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Esta Sallee and one sister, Betty Niggel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Washington Park North Great Hall Chapel at 2 p.m., with calling from Noon until service time. Entombment will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's favorite charity. Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park North is handling funeral arrangements.
