Ophelia "Faye" Martinez Whalen Mother of Gail Whalen, Reneé Whalen, and Mark Whalen (Vicki); grandmother of Holly Maynard, Kristy Williams, and Mark Whalen; great grandmother of four; sister of Betty Sommario (Ron) and Hector Munoz (Zena). Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bill Whalen. Born November 13, 1928 in New York City. After high school, Faye traveled with USO camp shows across the U.S., loving to dance and bring joy to the soldiers. She enjoyed being a part of military life with her husband and family, both in the US and stationed overseas in Japan. She worked at Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center for over 30 years and received numerous awards for her executive administrative skills. She was an active member for 53 years of the Indianapolis Sailing Club, serving on the board and was the current Historian. She was a member of Mud Creek Players and volunteered for over 20 years for the Republican Party. Faye loved social activities from exercising at the YMCA to lunches with her favorite friends. She enjoyed every moment of her life, touching others and offering comfort with her warmth and care. Faye's memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 in Flanner and Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Good Shepherd Chapel, where friends may call from 12 Noon until the service time. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
