Nova Leanna Owens Farrell, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away September 19, 2022. She was born on March 8, 1928, in New Ross, Indiana to the late Hiram Walter and Edith Rose (Graves) Owens.
She met her husband of 66 years, Edward M. Farrell, while both attended Arsenal Technical High School as honor students. Their journey together included raising three children and nourishing their spiritual faith. They were actively engaged at Irvington United Methodist Church for nearly 30 years and more recently as members of East 91st Street Christian Church.
She graduated from Franklin College in 1950 majoring in journalism, home economics, and secondary education. Upon graduation, she married Ed prior to his recall into the US Army due to the Korean War. She continued her graduate education at Ball State, studying nutrition. Her working career included a variety of jobs, including teaching and retail sales, but her greatest passion was tireless and selfless devotion to her loving husband, their family, and friends.
She was happily known for thorough preparation and organization skills. Her empathy and graciousness propelled her to serve the needs of others first, using every tool at her disposal, including masterful cooking, hosting, and flower-arranging skills.
She lived life bravely with an intense spiritual faith. Despite waning strength in her “Golden Years,” she still sought ways to renew her faith and those of others with prayer, meditation, enrichment classes, and bible study.
She made and maintained many dear friendships throughout her life. Especially dear to her were her beloved older brother Ken for teaching, protecting, and helping her when she needed it most and her dear sister Rose for always being there to sustain her with love and care, throughout her life, especially during her most difficult times.
She is survived by sisters Virginia Rose Hogue, Sharon Hansman, two loving sons, Brett (Maria) and Gregory (Sandra); four grandchildren: Chris Farrell (Emily), Megan Kelchner (John), Pam Thompson (Dennis), and Joe Farrell (Diane Kuhn); and seven great grandchildren. Her husband, Ed, their daughter, Laura, and brothers, Harold Kenneth Owens and Dale Owens, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to noon at E. 91st Street Christian Church, Indianapolis, followed by a noon memorial service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery on E. Washington St., Indianapolis.
