Norman J. Neargardner
90, of Indianapolis, IN. passed away July 8, 2013. He was born May 29, 1923 in Frenchtown, OH. to Melvin and Emma Monnin Neargardner. Norman was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and friend to all he met.
He served in the US Army, retired from Allison's in 1980 and was an active member of the UAW Local #933 retirees chapter, a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and a Yellow Shirt for the Indy 500 race.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Robert, Francis, Lester, and James Neargardner and Ruth Mangen. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence Klopfer Neargardner, his children John (Berenda) Neargardner, Carol (Jim) VanSlyke, and Keith (Pam) Neargardner. Grandchildren, John Neargardner Jr., Lisa Clayton, Dane Rodgers II and Nikki Neargardner, 4 great grandchildren and his brother Dennis Neargardner.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July, 12 at 10 a.m. in St Ann's Catholic Church followed by burial in St. Valbert's Cemetery in Versailles, OH. at 3 p.m.. Visitation will be Thursday July 11, from 4-8 PM at Flanner and Buchanan – Decatur, 5463 Kentucky Ave.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann's Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
