Norma Jean Curtis, 88, of Avon, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013. She was born on February 22, 1925 in Oblong, IL to Homer and Blanche (Dennis) Wiley. Jean graduated from Oblong Township High School in 1942 and worked as a Train Master's Clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad in Palestine, IL from 1944-1946. She enjoyed needlework, cooking, playing pinochle and bingo, and spending time with her family. Jean was also a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. From 1982-1992, Jean and her husband, spent part of their year in Bradenton, FL; moving there full time in 1992. They returned to the Indianapolis area in 2006. Jean is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Curtis; daughter, Judy (Peter) Ricketts; daughter-in-law, Sharon Curtis; sisters, Becky Engel of Danville, IL and H. Sue Clark of Robinson, IL. Jean was preceded in death by her son, Joe Curtis; brother, Bill Wiley; sisters, Pat Bartlow and Mary Hargis. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:30pm at John Knox Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at noon. Burial of cremated remains will take place in Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Curtis/Ricketts Continuing Education Scholarship at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 3000 North High School Road, Indianapolis.
