Norma Hess

Norma Rose Hess 71, of Fishers, IN passed away October 9, 2011. She was born on July 18, 1940 in Vincennes, IN. She was a 1961 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing, Evansville, IN. Survivors include daughters, Vicki Thomas, Tammy Hundley; son-in-laws, Bert Thomas, David Hundley; grandchildren, Nikki Vratsolis, Tim Thomas, Chris Hundley, Jessica Hundley, Madison Thomas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Marceline Gartner, and her sister, Myra Holscher of Vincennes, IN. She pioneered cardiovascular nursing at Methodist Hospital including open heart surgery in the 1970's, heart and lung transplant in the 1980's, and artificial heart and assist devices in the 1990's. After her retirement in 2004, she enjoyed traveling, volunteering, and spending time with her family and friends. She was loved by many. Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple with visitation on Friday 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
