Nita “Jane” Gillette danced her way into Heaven in the early morning of Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the age of 91. She departed with the warmth of family surrounding her, the tunes of her beloved Frank Sinatra in her ear, and a hint of gin on her “Flirty & Fabulous” hot pink lips. Jane was born on November 15, 1924, to George and Marie Helfrich in Monon, Indiana. She graduated from Monon High School in 1942. Jane married Richard “Dick” Gillette and together they had three sons. Jane was a dedicated mother who worked tirelessly for her boys. She was financial secretary of Scecina Memorial High School from 1971 to 1990. Jane loved spending time with friends and family, dancing, reading romance novels, listening to music, watching sports, and enjoying a good drink. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s late in life never tempered her extraordinary sense of humor, kind heart, or ability to love and be loved. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marie Helfrich, brothers Buddy and John, and husband Dick. She is survived by her sister Suzanne (Carl) Bartman, sons Kevin (Holly) Gillette, Kyle (Linda) Gillette, and Kirk (Debbie) Gillette, her grandchildren Kia Gillette, Nathan Gillette, Ashley Gillette, Corey Gillette, Leslie (Nick) Fischer, and Tracy (Jesse) White, and her great-grandchildren Cooper White, Clara Jane White, Avery Fischer and Lyla Jane Fischer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Good Shepherd Chapel), 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. A calling will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM followed by a service presided by dear friend Father Gerald Kirkhoff. Memorial contributions can be made to Scecina Memorial High School at scecina.org.
