Nick G. Georgopulos
90, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2015. He was born on August 27, 1924 in Indianapolis, the son of George and Panayiota (Karpoozo) Georgopulos. Nick proudly served his country in Italy in the Army during WW II, as part of Company K, Third Battalion, the 361st Regiment, 91st Infantry Division, and held the rank Private First Class. Nick was awarded the Silver Star for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy" while serving during WWII. He and his late wife Demetra "Pete", were small business owners of a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store at 10th and Arlington in Indianapolis for more than 30 years, as well as life-long members of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Indianapolis. Nick was a devoted husband to Demetra, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who dearly loved his family. In his spare time, Nick was an avid model train enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Soter Georgopulos, and his wife of more than 46 years, Demetra, who passed away in 2001. Nick is survived by his six children, Patty King (Steve), Gina Ericksen (Greg), Niki Holland (Dr. Fred), Joni Fannin (Tony), George Georgopulos (Ana), and Peter Georgopulos; and he was "Papou" to his 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Calling will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday January 15th, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm with a Trisagion Service at 7:30 pm. Additional calling will be held on Friday January 16th, 2015 at the church beginning at 10 am to 11 am then followed by the funeral service starting at 11 am.
