Neil M. Trout passed away April 29th, 2025. He valued and exemplified the finest of character, even in times of duress. He was known for being an endearingly warm and witty, thoughtful, dependable, kind and generous soul to all.
Neil was a wonderfully loving supportive husband and was loved dearly by his wife, Beth Rose-Trout, daughter Regina (Jason) and 3 grandchildren; Jason (jr.), Elijah, and Lillia.
Neil was born September 6th, 1947 to his adoring parents Gordon and Ruth Trout. At the tender age of 9 ½ though Neil lost his mother suddenly; a time he said he’d never forget. His Mother’s siter Aunt Francis, helped his father raise him for a couple of years until his Father remarried. At that point Neil became part of a much larger family with sisters Joyce (Gary), Jennifer, Amanda, and brothers Stephen (Vickie), Thomas (Kerry).
After his mother’s passing Neil became active in the Boy scouts. He also began taking trumpet lessons with an Indpls Symphony trumpet player and Neil combined the two to play in the National Boy scout band. He traveled to Boy Scout national jamboree events and with them played for several US presidents. In high school Neil played in the jazz band and was quite good. Throughout life Neil has continued to enjoy and participate in music as a trumpeter at church, playing Tapps at funerals, or playing with a band at Methodist Hospital during the holiday season to bring cheer to patients. Over the last decade he played the handbell coir at Cumberland First Baptist Church, where he attended with his wife, Beth.
Neil worked to put himself through college at Indiana Univ., graduating with a Chemistry degree, continuing his studies to become a medical laboratory scientist. Upon graduating from IU though, Neil was drafted and served honorably during Vietnam. Upon returning from service Neil married Madonna Nowviskie and raised his daughter Regina.
Neil worked for 35 years as the manager of special chemistry-in charge of lab work at Methodist Hospital. During the Covid-19 pandemic Neil worked at Westfield (Riverview) Hospital lab. He was still employed at the time of his death. E was valued by his co-workers for his knowledge, dependability, timeliness and communication skills. Said of him: “It’s rare to find all these fine qualities in one individual.”
Neil and Beth met in 2010 and were married in 2014. They each made a point of spending as much time together as possible every day and daily telling one another “I love you.”
Neil was an active volunteer throughout life and always tried to support good programs. He was proud to be a part of SECOND HELPINGS, volunteering many hours as a “Sous-chef” or transporting food, always willing to help when asked. He took as much pride in being dependable when volunteering as he was with any paid position. Neil also supported the Big Brother program of Indianapolis and was himself a Big Brother for a young man (Karl) for many years until Karl graduated from the program. Neil and Karl stayed in touch.
Neil had two hobbies that he was exuberant about. He was an avid racing fan, never missing an Indy 500 race since first going with his Father when he was young. He loved watching races at home, and throughout life would travel to Michigan sometimes for racing events there.
Later in life Neil became an avid Ballroom dancer. He because quite good, even winning national titles including “Best Male Newcomer” his first year with Fred Astaire. He enjoyed competition and was always happy to be dancing (His favorite was the Viennese Waltz). He shared this love of ballroom dancing with his wife, Beth.
When an automobile accident injured Beth’s parents and herself, Neil became actively involved in helping Beth with their care. Over the past few years, he has been a constant gentle, positive presence, always helping where he was needed most. He exemplified love in all he did and will be missed beyond measure but never forgotten by those who knew him well.
Memorial contributions may be made to Second Helpings, an organization close to Neil's heart.
