Nathan John Stevens

Freedom, Indiana – Nathan J. Stevens, 76, passed away at home, surrounded by family and friends. A man of few words, his whistling, his creativity, and his giant heart will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Nathan was born on June 3, 1950, to parents Clinton & Joyce (Loveday) Stevens in Charleston, West Virginia. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served his country honorably; receiving the National Defense Service Medal. Nathan worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his life, especially on the water fields for utility companies; Citizens being the one he worked with the longest.

Nathan’s true talent was in his hands though. He worked as a carpenter for his entire life as well as the refurbishment and modification of classic cars and vehicles. These were more than hobbies; they were ways Nathan expressed himself and connected with this friends and family.

More than anything else however, Nathan loved his family. While a quiet man, he would gladly give the shirt off his back to those he cherished and would happily do anything he could to lend them a hand. He donated his time and energy to anyone who needed it, including his neighbors and friends that just needed an extra hand. Most of all, Nathan was so very proud of his children and the adults they grew into.

Nathan is preceded in death by his parents; Clinton & Joyce Stevens; and sister Shirley Gerkin.

He is survived by his confidante and dear friend, Kimberly Stevens; children Brian Stevens (Danika), Dawn Blyth (Patrick), and Nathan J Stevens Jr. (Ashley); siblings Clinton Stevens Jr. and Carol Ridge; grandchildren Zach Wilcott, Nikk Stevens, Natasha Stevens, Clay Kleek, Dustin Fox, Mackenzie Caraway, Ryland Caraway, and Grayson Stevens; and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1 – 3 pm with funeral services following at 3 pm. Entombment will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery following the services.
