It is with true heartbreak that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Nathan. He was a true gift from God. He was the center of our lives; our sunshine. He was a wonderful son and brother, a shining sweet light in all of our lives.
He brought happiness to those around him, even on their darkest days. He had the most contagious laugh, biggest smile and gave the best hugs.
He was brave beyond measure. His body was fragile but his spirit was strong. He overcame so many obstacles but was still kind, loving, unselfish and full of joy. He maintained a childlike, angelic innocence and beauty throughout his special life. He never forgot a friend.
Nathan was an avid collector of VHS movies, especially anything Toy Story.
He had a great sense of humor. Heywood Banks was his favorite “comedy guy” and he saw him perform many times and kept photos of them together on his dresser.
Summers at Higgins lake was our family tradition. He was fearless on the Sea-Doo
and enjoyed long rides. He spent many evenings sitting by the campfire with his family and watching the sunset. He loved the water and could happily tread water for long stretches of time.
He adored music and had eclectic tastes. Disney soundtracks, John Denver, Vivaldi, the Wiggles, Raffi, Barney, Eric Capton and Jimmy Buffett were among his favorites.
He had a lifelong eating disorder but he knew what he liked. He began each day with a big bowl of vanilla bean ice cream slightly melted with chocolate syrup that he called “ice cream cold broth”, that he only would eat with a big spoon.
He loved his family and we cherished him.
Sweet Nathan was the sunshine of our lives; a little angel through and through.
He is survived by his parents Nancy Johnson and Earl Townsend; his siblings Mia, Earl and Wade Townsend. He was preceded in death by his sister Monica and his infant triplet brother William and is now in heaven with them in everlasting peace.
He has a large, loving extended family and was especially close to his nieces, Mayla and Millie.
He was a blessing and his memory is a blessing. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Riley Children’s hospital in his honor.
A private ceremony is planned at Flanner Buchanan Zionsville Wed April 1st at 1 pm.
