Nancy Lynn Thomas, 78, a beloved matriarch, left this world on June 22, 2025, in her cherished hometown of Indianapolis, where she was born on April 16, 1947. Nancy was catholic and attended school at Saint Marys. Nancy enjoyed swimming and being outdoors and had a vibrant spirit that touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark through her unwavering love and generosity.
A committed wife for over 50 years, Nancy’s unmistakable bond with her husband, Gary Thomas, began at Nealey's Blue Room, where a single dance sparked a lifelong romance. Together, they navigated life hand-in-hand, sharing laughter, creating memories, and building a family founded on love.
Nancy was a dedicated mother to her children, Scott Martin, Kimberly Manuel and Neil Thomas. The joy of her life blossomed through her roles as a mother, wife, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her husband Gary Thomas, grandchildren, Jessica Martin, Nikki Manuel, Dakota, and James along with her great grandchildren, Chase Martin, Nicholas Frietzsche, Chloe Frietzsche, and Abigail Rybolt, John Rybolt Jr., Ashton Rybolt, and Brody Rybolt treasure countless moments filled with laughter and warmth. She and her siblings, Anita Crowe, Mike Raab, and Martin Raab were always close throughout the years as well. Jessica fondly recalls sneaking into her car, ready for some playful mischief each time they arrived at Grandma’s house. Kim also has a fond memory of spying on the world with Mom through binoculars. Nancy loved her nieces and nephew's whole heartedly as well, Shelly Crowe, LeeAndray, Xzavier, Sheila, Shannon, Shane, and Christy along with her children. Her home was always a haven for all of her family, who relished in the loving atmosphere she created.
In addition to her family life, Nancy devoted many years to her career, working at various department stores such as Sears, LS Ayres, and Macy's, where her friendly disposition and strong work ethic shone brightly. However, it was in the kitchen that her true artistry became evident. Known for her exceptional culinary skills, she made the best potato soup, scalloped potatoes, baked ham, and her infamous banana pudding, which graced every holiday table and delighted those fortunate enough to savor it if Chase didn't hide it from everyone first.
Nancy’s personality was a tapestry woven from love, strength, and resilience. She was known to always smile and be forgiving and would readily give the shirt off her back for anyone in need. Her spirit soared with music; she was a unique blend of country and rock and roll, often seen rocking out in the kitchen with Neil and Gary, showcasing her free-spirited nature. With a deep devotion to her Catholic faith, she approached life with grace and compassion, reflecting her nurturing heart in everything she did.
As we celebrate Nancy’s life and the legacy she leaves behind, we remember her ability to bring people together, her infectious laughter, and the love that radiated from her to all those fortunate to know her.
