Nancy Ann (Miller) McNiece
62, of Indianapolis and formerly of Evansville, IN died June 8, 2013 of ovarian cancer. She was born January 23, 1951 in Evansville to Edgar August and Mary Frances (Greubel) Miller. She grew up in Evansville and graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1969. She graduated from Marian College with a BA in psychology in 1973, from the University of Evansville in 1976 with an Associate Degree in Nursing, and from Marian College in 1983 with a BS - Nursing. She married William L. McNiece, M.D. on October 2, 1987 at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Speedway, IN. They resided in Indianapolis throughout their marriage. She had one daughter, Theresa Lynne McNiece.
Nancy was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses and previously served as Secretary/Treasurer of the local chapter. She began her professional career on June 1, 1976, and completed it on May 31, 2013. Throughout these thirty-seven years, she worked in various capacities but always as a nurse in the Riley Hospital for Children Operating Room. She worked concurrently in the Infant Intensive Care Unit at Riley for ten years.
Nancy joined Holy Cross Catholic Church in Indianapolis following her marriage. She was active in the parish, serving at various times as Parish Council President, Parish Council Secretary, Chair of the Liturgy Committee and Secretary of the Parish Planning Process.
Nancy took great pride in her work as a nurse and played a brief but important part in the lives of thousands of children and their families. She always had a good sense of what was important and what was not. She was a mentor to many and a servant to all. She enriched the final years of her parents and her mother-in-law.
She is survived by her husband and daughter. Her siblings included Edgar A. "Eddie" Miller, Jr. who preceded her in death. Also surviving are her other siblings included Stephen (Carolyn) Miller of Evansville, Elaine (Leland) Symonds of Punta Gorda, FL, Diana (Ron) Leach of Louisville, KY, Paul "Butch" (Sally) Miller of Evansville, Joe (Mindy) Miller of Evansville, sister-in-law Brenda (Eddie) Miller of Omaha, NE and generations of nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be through Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Broad Ripple. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the church. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery on North High Street in Brownstown, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Cross, 125 N. Oriental St., Indianapolis, IN 46201, to Ovar'coming Together, Inc., 2625 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46208 or to a charity whose mission reflects Nancy's life.
