Nancy Lou Dainty

Nancy Dainty, 91, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly Carmel, IN, passed away Friday May 23, 2025. Nancy was born December 4, 1933, in Jamestown, NY to the late Frederick H. and Gertrude J. Jones. She was a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She later became a School Nurse Teacher in 1971, until her retirement in 1992.

She followed in her father’s footsteps and became a member of the American Legion Junior Auxiliary at the age of 7, in 1940. She continued as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving for 85 years, becoming a permanent member. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, in Henrietta, NY, and currently Honeoye, NY, since 1958, where she served as Matron, Treasurer, and Musician. She became active in Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, and played organ at every church she attended. Nancy was a master of the piano and shared her love for music with everyone.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Karen (Robert) Stransky; grandchildren Ryan Deal, Meredith Harrison, Nicholas Reed, Zachary Dainty, Jennifer Chapman, and Allyson Brower; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 67 years, Harry E. Dainty, daughter Cynthia, and son Kevin.

There will be no local memorial service as it is Nancy's wish to be laid to rest in Jamestown, NY, in the presence of family members.
