Nancy Lee Apple Brown, also known to many friends and family as Nancy Cain, 84, of Speedway, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at Eagle Valley Meadows. She was born on August 17, 1941, to Walter Apple and Lucille Feigenbaum Apple. She graduated from Washington High School in Indianapolis. After graduating from high school, Nancy spent many years working at Cold Springs School, IU Health, and Wayne Township Schools, where she was known for her reliability, strong work ethic, and friendly nature. She built lasting relationships with colleagues and took satisfaction in contributing to her workplace. Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, strength, infectious laugh, and deep love of family. She devoted herself to those she loved, always offering steady support and encouragement. From their childhood through their college years, she never missed a sporting event, dance competition, or performance of her children and grandchildren, proudly cheering them on across the United States. Nancy loved celebrating life's special moments, especially birthdays and holidays. Christmas Eve was her favorite tradition of the year, and she found great joy in bringing family together to create cherished memories that will be treasured for generations. She also loved to travel, finding joy in exploring new places and creating lasting memories. She especially enjoyed occasional trips to the casino, where she delighted in the excitement and time spent laughing with loved ones. Her memory will live on through all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lucille Apple, and her brother, Donald Apple. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Stephen Brown; her children, Michael Cain (Lori), Michelle Ferguson (Bill); her cherished grandchildren, MacKenzie Cain, Cassidy Duffy (Tyler), Lauren Ferguson, Jenna Devney (Noah), and Cori Cain; her great-grandchildren, Grayton, Emma, and Parker; her sister, Gloria Davis; as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan in Speedway, Indiana. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place the following day at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana, for family.
The family appreciates the kindness, prayers, and support they have received during this difficult time and extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff and caregivers at Eagle Valley Meadows Memory Care Unit for their care and support over the past year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association in memory of Nancy.
Nancy will be deeply missed.
