Nancy Blacklidge Hardin Hunt, age 85, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children on December 6 after a complicated illness.

She was a faithful Christian woman and a good person with a kind heart.

Born February 9, 1937, Nancy was the only child of Ted and Mabel Blacklidge.

Nancy grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Howe High School, where she was a cheerleader for the Hornets.

She was the first in her family to go to college, earning her undergraduate degree in business from Indiana University and her master’s degree in education from Butler University.  Nancy was a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

A lifelong learner, she had a passion for education and reading, had been a librarian at Spring Mill Elementary and finished her teaching career at Guion Creek Middle School. She was an elementary literacy volunteer in her later years and cherished her book club gatherings.

Nancy had lived in Colony Woods in Zionsville for 27 years and Williams Mill in Carmel for 14 years. She spent many winters at her second home in Naples, Florida.

The Zionsville chapter of P.E.O., a philanthropic women’s organization, and its members were an important part of Nancy’s life for four decades.

She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Stephen Minister.

She was a good friend. Nancy made and kept friendships throughout every stage of her life. Even in her last year, she was still friends with the girl who sat next to her in first grade and the woman who lived in the house behind her 50 years ago.

She was a little person with a lot of strength. Nancy rarely complained and always looked forward while facing some enormous challenges in her life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husbands, Mike Hardin in 1978 and Stan Hunt (U.S. Army Veteran) in 2000.  Her life with Stan brought some of the happiest years of her life, filled with dancing, laughter, travel and numerous celebrations with dear friends and family, including many grand times at their get-a-way in Brown County.

Most of all, Nancy was a mother and a grandmother. She was fondly known as “Nana” to her family.

She is survived by her three children—Steve Hardin and his wife Judy, Amy Hardin and Lori Hardin Brackemyre; seven grandchildren—Zach (Natasha), Michael, Ty and Lake Hardin and Ted, Annie (Michael) and Grace Brackemyre; and one great-grandchild Luke Hardin.

Services will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, on Thursday, December 22nd at 11 am with visitation from 10am until time of service. A private family burial service at Zionsville Cemetery will follow. To view the service please follow this link https://stlukesumc.com/funeral
