Glory Be…Myron Michael Owens, 89, of Indianapolis, went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2019. He was born on December 9, 1930 in Mitchell, Indiana to the late Ralph and Doris (Burton) Owens. He was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School in Indianapolis and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. Myron served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Philippine Sea aircraft carrier. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and the V.F.W. He was an award-winning salesman throughout his career and was currently working proudly at Westside Community News for the last 27 years. Myron, best known as Mike and also known as Micky, treasured and held with highest esteem the things often taken for granted in our fast-paced world. The things most reverent to him were God, family, country, the opportunity to enjoy life, nature, music, travel and a successful vocation. He enjoyed sharing his magic tricks, jokes, old stories, Irish toasts, western movies, musicals, horse racing, playing cards, pitching washers, playing cornhole, camping, and grilling his “world-famous” ribs. Mike was very artistic and enjoyed drawing, singing, and writing poetry. Mike learned to play the piano as a child and performed in church recitals at a young age. He continued his love for the piano by composing several of his own songs and playing many others by ear for family and friends. He had a great vocabulary and an eloquent and endearing way with words. His mission in life was to make everyone in his path smile and feel known and loved. His passion, energy, and endurance for life left us all speechless. He was preceded in death by his spouse, Charlotte Irene (Fruits) Owens and children, Rebecca Clouse, Daniel Owens, Kevin Owens. He is survived by his children, Beverly Thompson (Thomas) of Martinsville, Michael D. Owens of Indianapolis, Susie Martin (Patrick) of Lafayette, Steve Owens of Indianapolis, Myra Legoas (Ivan) of Zionsville and Aaron Owens (Melanie) of Whiteland; brother Timothy Owens (Dottie) of Brownsburg; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with another one on the way and 1 great great-grandchild. Our family welcomes all to remember and celebrate Mike’s life with us. Visitations are on Sunday, December 22nd from 3-7pm with the funeral on Monday, December 23rd at 11 am. Both will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Decatur Township at 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis. All are also invited to attend the graveside services with Military Honors at approximately 2:30 pm at the Burton Cemetery in Mitchell, Indiana. “Until we meet again, live life to the fullest; smiling, dancing, working hard, loving one another and never EVER know a stranger. I ask for nothing else! Thanks for the opportunity. I love you all.” - Myron Michael Owens
