Ms Ekaterini "Kathy" Diamantidis

November 28, 1951 — April 5, 2024

Ekaterini “Kathy” Diamantidis, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 5, 2024. She was born November 28, 1951 in Athens, Greece to the late Iordanis and Areti Diamantidis.

Ekaterini immigrated to the United States in July of 1965 with her parents and her sister, Eleni. Immigrating to the US, gave her the opportunity to educate herself. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School.  She then continued her studies at IUPUI where she received her undergraduate degree in teaching English and Spanish.  She truly enjoyed being trilingual and decided to get her Master’s in Spanish from IUPUI.  After she finished the Master’s program, she had the opportunity to study abroad in Mexico. Her time in Mexico allowed her to embrace the language and culture she had worked hard to master.

Teaching was her passion.  She spent over 30 years teaching Spanish in the IPS school system.  She traveled to many different IPS schools in the district and taught the children in the Academically Talented Program.  Towards the end of her career, she received her certification in ESL, and taught ESL students during her last few years before retiring.  She spent countless hours preparing for her classes and focused on each student’s talents to help them be successful.  Her love and compassion for her students was her strength.

Ekaterini shared her talent of teaching with her church family at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  She taught Greek School for several years to the children of the parish.  This was a special opportunity for her as she taught her native language to the children, along with English being her second language.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Philoptochos Ladies Society.  She enjoyed participating in the church Bible Study and many church functions.  She volunteered annually in the bakery of the church festival.  More recently, she enjoyed making koliva for several Memorials. She donated to many charities and loved the church very much.

She is survived by her sister, Eleni and brother-in-law John Vogas, nephews Angelo Vogas and Donny (Laura) Vogas, niece Aretoula (Amer) Nahas, great niece and Goddaughter Eleni Alexa Vogas-Barnette, great nephew Yanni Nahas, and great nieces Zoe and Eleni Vogas.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Iordanis and Areti Diamantidis.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 4pm-8pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3500 W 106th Street, Carmel, Indiana 46032.  A Trisagion service will be at 7:30pm.  Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11am, with calling from 10am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fishers, Indiana with a memorial luncheon to follow at Holy Trinity.  Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel.  Online condolences and a video tribute may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com
