October 8, 1938 – January 31, 2026
Mrs. Melba Gene Booher, 87, passed away at home surrounded by family on January 31st, 2026. She was born in Wappapello, Missouri, on October 8th, 1938, to parents Charles Everett and Rena Louise (Booker) Green.
On January 14th, 1956, Melba married the love of her life, Floyd Lee Booher, at the Bellaire Methodist Parsonage in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together, they shared a life defined by hard work and a deep devotion to their family.
Melba had a lifelong heart for children. For many years, she served as a cook at Beech Grove Elementary School, where she was a familiar and caring face to countless students. In 1980, Melba and Floyd moved to Seminole, Florida, where she continued her career in education as a janitorial supervisor at Osceola Middle School.
A woman of many passions, Melba loved to garden and took great pride in canning what she reaped from the earth. She also found immense joy in the companionship of her beloved dog, Mollie. Melba found her greatest peace at the beach, spending countless hours listening to the rhythm of the ocean and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Above all, she was a dedicated mother and grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family.
Melba is survived by her children, Rebecca Booher Day (Dan) and David Booher; her daughter-in-law, Tricia Booher; her grandchildren, Shaun Hayse (Ami) and Amanda Day (Jared); and her great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Day, Jacob Hayse, and Colin Hayse. She is also survived by her siblings, Ray Green and Mary Stowers, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in passing by her husband, Floyd Lee Booher; her son, Terry Booher; her parents, Charles Everett Green and Rena Louise Booker; her siblings, Pauline Jessup (Joseph), John Green (Henrietta), and Jimmy Green (Polly); her half-brother, Robert Booker Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Don Stowers.
Melba will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
