Morris "Sam" Denton, Jr. passed away at home in The Villages, Florida December 10, 2025.
Sam was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 20, 1942 to Morris & Mary Denton Sr. He attended Manual High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sam was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department October 1, 1969. He was instrumental in bringing the World Police & Fire Games to Indianapolis, traveling to Australia, California, Canada and Sweden. Sam was the Local 416 President and Treasurer, Board member for the GIFCU and also a Trustee on the IFD Pension Board and Pension Secretary. Sam retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department May 1, 2005 as Executive Officer for Battalion 13 C Shift. Sam enjoyed roller skating, snow skiing, and classic cars.
He was preceded in death by siblings; Phil Denton, Phyllis Weiser, Debbie Ramsey, Alice Coddington.
Surviving children; Keith Denton (Joey), Steven Denton (Trisha), Teresa McDonough (David), Jason Stroup (Kelly). Grandchildren; Joshua Denton, Jennifer Huff, Reagan Stroup and Collin Stroup; The Firefighters Brotherhood.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan - Speedway, 2950 N. High School Road, Indianapolis, IN with a service immediately following.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tunnel To Towers.
